Islanders boost offense for 2009

Bayamon, PR-The Puerto Rico Islanders announce that Jamaicans Nicholas Addlery and Sean Fraser along with Uruguayan Martin Nunez have come to terms with the club for the 2009 season, pending league’s approval.

Addlery, a former Jamaican international and US Permanent Resident, comes from the USL defending Champions Vancouver Whitecaps where he scored 4 goals and 1 assist in 27 games in the 2008 season. He has also played for Trinidad and Tobago‘s San Juan Jabloteh, Vietnam‘s Dong Nai FC, and MLS’ DC United.

Nunez, a 22 year old Uruguayan midfielder and US Permanent Resident, comes to the Islanders from the Carolina Railhawks. He played collegiate soccer for Georgia Perimeter College before being drafted by Miami FC but opting to sign with the Railhawks. In 2008 he scored 5 goals and 2 assists for Carolina.

Fraser comes to the Islanders via transfer from Miami FC. He was a member of the Jamaican U20 National Team that competed in the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina. Fraser has also played for other international clubs such as Boavista Sport Club in Brazil and Harbour View FC in Jamaica. In 2008, Fraser scored 4 goals for the Miami FC Blues.

«These three signings show our commitment with our fans by having proved offensive players with the ability to score goals and create a lot of excitement during games. These three players bring to the squad international attacking experience which we believe will be very beneficial in this year’s offense.» said Islanders President Andrés Guillemard.

The Islanders are back in Puerto Rico from their pre-season camp in Bradenton, Florida. The Islanders will face DC United of the MLS on February 21st in preparation for their biggest match in franchise history, the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals against CD Marathon of Honduras on February 26 at the JRL Stadium.
