The USL-1 Puerto Rico Islanders
and the USL-2 Harrisburg City Islanders announce a joint open tryout away from their Islands on March 10th and 11th in Orlando, Florida at Sylvan Lake Park. The clubs will be scouting potential players for their 2010 roster. Players will have the opportunity to be evaluated by coaches of two different leagues of professional soccer in the USL
«We look forward to the combine with the Puerto Rico Islanders,» said Harrisburg City Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher. «They are a top USL-1 club that has had a lot of success. We know this combine will attract many top players, and we hope we can add some to the 2010 City Islanders roster.»
The Puerto Rico Islanders are a two-time CONCACAF Champions League participant who recently completed their sixth season in the USL First Division
. The Puerto Rico Islanders finished in the top three of the USL-1 for the second consecutive season after claiming the regular season league title in 2008. The 2008 USL-1 league finalists are coached by veteran USL-1 and Major League Soccer
coach Colin Clarke, a former international for Northern Ireland.
The Harrisburg City Islanders will begin their seventh season of play in the USL Second Division
. The club’s 2007 campaign was marked by winning the USL-2 Championship following an 11-4-5 regular season record. In 2009 the team finished the regular season in 3rd place and advanced to the US Open Cup Quarterfinals by defeating the New England Revolution
, 2-1. The USL honored four Harrisburg players to the USL-2 All-League Teams and honored Tiyiselani Shipalane as Rookie of the Year. Shipalane is now with DC United of the MLS. The Harrisburg City Islanders are coached by Bill Becher and Steve Widdowson.
