Puerto Rico Celebrates

The Puerto Rico Islanders have managed to hold off the Carolina Railhawks in Cary, NC and take the 2010 USSF Div 2 title.  Puerto Rico won the 1st leg at home 2-0 and held the Railhawks to a 1-1 draw in the away fixture

Congratulations must go out to Colin Clarke and his players.  Over the past three years Colin and his coaching staff have turned the Islanders around and stamped their name into the history books.  I have played for Colin Clarke in Richmond years ago and I can tell you that he is a well respected man.  As a player, he played at the top levels and appeared in the ’86 World Cup in Mexico with Northern Ireland.

What people must also remember is that Puerto Rico have been competing in the CONCACAF Champions League for the past three seasons, which we all know, can effect league performances.  The Islanders story is an inspiring one and is a good role model for professional teams in North America.

While Puerto Rico celebrates, the Montreal Impact keeps on preparing for the upcoming season.  The team has already announced five players who will not be returning for next season.  Eduardo Sebrango, Patrick Leduc, Rocco Placentino, Wesley Charles and Filipe Soares will all take different routes next year, but they all should be praised for their efforts and years of service to the club.  All five veteran players have contributed to the success of this club and should not be forgotten.
