Greenbay Hoppers, Cavaly advance to second round of Caribbean club championship

Kelly Frederic, who scored two goals to help rally Greenbay to a 3-3 draw in the first leg against Sevilla FC , added a second-half tally to Tamorley Thomas’ 15th-minute strike, pacing a 2-0 victory in St. John’s Antigua. The result gave the Hoppers a 5-3 aggregate win and sent it to a second-round meeting against either Tempete FC of Haiti or Alpha United of Guyana.

In Aruba, Valdo Normil scored in first-half injury time to lift Cavaly FC of Haiti to a 1-0 victory over SV Britannia, completing a 6-0 aggregate win.

Cavaly advances to play W Connection of Trinidad & Tobago, which beat Bath Estate of Dominica 5-0 and 12-1 to easily advance to the second round.

The only first-round series still awaiting completion is Tempete-Alpha United, which was postponed to Sunday, April 5 due to travel problems. The two drew 1-1 in the first leg in Guyana on March 21.

Besides W Connection versus Caval;y and Greenbay against either the Tempete-Alpha winner, Inter Moengo Tapoe of Suriname will face San Juan Jabloteh of Trinidad, which was seeded into the second round having reached the semifinals of the CFU Club Champions Cup in 2007. The first leg will be played April 13 and the second leg a week later.

The three second-round winners will advance to single-game semifinals along with the Puerto Rico Islanders on May 15 in Trinidad. The final and third-place match will be played two days later, also in Trinidad.
