Austin Aztex News Release – www.austinaztex.com

Friday, December 5, 2008

AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Aztex FC announced it has signed a multi-year agreement with Austin Independent School District (AISD) to play in downtown Austin. The Aztex have agreed to terms to play in AISD facilities for the next two years.

The club will kick off its inaugural season in the USL-First Division at Nelson Field in 2009 with the opportunity to play at House Park in 2010. Nelson Field seats up to 10,000 fans and features a new field turf pitch installed in 2007, as part of a $2 million renovation project.

“We are absolutely delighted to have reached an agreement with AISD to use one of their stadiums for the next two years” said Phil Rawlins, Aztex president. “Our fans want to see us playing in downtown Austin and we are happy to oblige. We had hoped to play in Austin in 2008 but didn’t have any options given all the field remodeling that went on this year. We have been in dialog with AISD the past few months about making House Park our home stadium but because of the new locker room construction, House won’t be available until the end of next summer, too late for our 2009 season. Nelson is a great location, very accessible to all our fans and will be a great stadium for us this year.”

“I’m excited about the relationship that we have built with Phil Rawlins and the Aztex,” said Tommy Cox, AISD Athletics Director. “We wish them the very best of success in bringing professional soccer to Austin in 2009 and years to come.”

In addition to working with AISD and its athletic facilities, the Aztex will also be working closely with AISD and its middle schools on a health and fitness program for all Austin 6th graders, as part of its continuing Aztex in the Community Program.

Season tickets for the 2009 Season will go on sale next week. Please contact John Hoelscher at 512-335-8881 or jhoelscher@austinaztex.com for more details.
