To MLS or not to MLS?

By: BoriQa

Four MLS teams and two USL teams competed in the CONCACAF Champions League. The overrated MLS league is almost extint and out of the tournament; while the teams from the USL (the supposedly weaker league), the Puerto Rico Islanders and the Montreal Impact, both advanced to the quarterfinals.

Two of the MLS teams, the New England Revolution and Chivas USA, fell by the wayside in the preliminary round. New England fell 2-5 in aggregate to Joe Public from Trinidad & Tobago, while Chivas USA fell 1-3 in aggregate to Tauro FC from Panama. The Puerto Rico Islanders defeated 4-3 in aggregate the Tauro FC, while the Montreal Impact defeated 6-1 in aggregate the Joe Public, in their respective groups in the group play.

Meanwhile, DC United was eliminated in group play, as they only managed to score 1 point in the group standings with a single draw and 5 losses. The surviving MLS team, the Houston Dynamo is at the edge of elimination…

The Houston Dynamo is currently in 3rd place of Group B with 6 points, behind 2nd place CD Luis Angel Firpo from El Salvador with 8 points. The two teams drew 1-1 in their first encounter in San Salvador, and they will meet again on November 26 in Houston for the last match of the group play round. Firpo will move on to the quarterfinals with either a win or a draw. Dynamo must win to save the MLS’ face in this tournament. Can Dynamo do it?

You be the judge…
