– Four teams with ambitions of reaching the finals in the ‘Group of Death’
Monday November 1st 2010 – Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago: As the finals of the Digicel Caribbean Cup 2010 get closer, Group F hosts, Trinidad and Tobago, prepare to take on 2006 finalists, Haiti, Group C winners, Guyana, and Group B runners-up St. Vincent & the Grenadines in what has been dubbed as the ‘Group of Death’.
All four teams in Group F will play each other over three days and six matches from November 2nd to November 6th in the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella. While all four teams will be hoping to get through and travel to Martinique for the kick off of the final stages on November 26th, former champions Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago will be particularly hungry for success. The Soca Warriors met Haiti in the 2006 final but lost 2-1, although many attribute this to the fact that Trinidad was missing many of its European-based players that had helped the Soca Warriors qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
President of the Caribbean Football Union and CONCACAF and Vice President of FIFA, Jack Warner, said; “The Digicel Caribbean Cup 2010 has been an exciting tournament so far with some wonderful displays of football from all the teams who have played – many of which have already improved their standings in the official FIFA World rankings and the CONCACAF rankings.
“I would like to congratulate Guyana and St. Vincent & the Grenadines for making it through to stage two and wish all four teams the very best of luck this week,” he continued.
Digicel Trinidad & Tobago CEO, Niall Dorrian, said; “We are looking forward to some exciting football here in Trinidad & Tobago and we expect this round to be a memorable one, not only with the performance of the teams, but with the initiatives Digicel will implement to increase crowd capacity.
“At the games themselves, there are a number of treats for spectators including entertainment from the Digicel cheerleaders and Digicel Brand Ambassador, Ravi B. I would also like to echo President Warner’s sentiments and wish all the teams good luck,” he continued.
Group F kicks off in Trinidad’s Mannie Ramjohn Stadium tomorrow night when Haiti take on Guyana at 17:00, followed by Trinidad & Tobago versus St. Vincent & the Grenadines at 19:30.
