MONTREAL, QC — The Montreal Impact announced that Panamean forward Roberto Brown has come to terms with the club for the 2009 season, pending league’s approval.

Brown played a key role in Montreal’s Champions League run (Pepe)Brown, 31, played the last two seasons in Montreal. In 2008, he led the Impact in points with four goals and four assists, for a total of 12 points in 14 regular season games (965 minutes). He also scored two goals during the Nutrilite Canadian Championship and three goals in the CONCACAF Champions League, including a two-goal game against CD Olimpia, October 1st, in Honduras.

“Roberto (Brown) is an experienced player who has scored important goals for us since his arrival in Montreal, not only during the season but as well in the CONCACAF Champions League,” said Impact head coach John Limniatis. “We wanted him to come back because he is an important element in our lineup. He will once again help us this year in the offensive third.”

Brown becomes the fourth foreign player under contract with the Montreal organization to secure a spot on the 2009 lineup, after defenders Stefano Pesoli (Italy) and Cédric Joqueviel (France), and midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo (Argentina).

The Impact has also confirmed that Antigua and Barbuda forward Peter Byers will not be back in 2009. Byers accepted an offer from the San Jose Earthquakes in the Major League Soccer (MLS). He had joined the Impact during the last season, August 19.

The Impact continues its training camp at Catalogna Soccerplexe in Lachine. The club will play its first pre-season game this Saturday against its reserve team, the Trois-Rivières Attak, at the Bell Sports Complex, at 8 pm.

A reminder that tickets for the CONCACAF Champions League will be on sale Tuesday at 9 am through Admission (514-790-1245/admission.com), as well as at the ticketing offices of Olympic Stadium and Saputo Stadium.
