Friday, October 15th 2010 – Panamericano Stadium, Dominican Republic: The BVI bowed out of this year’s Digicel Caribbean Cup by breaking another record in conceding the fastest ever goal in the tournament after only 26 seconds, and will no doubt be thankful to be drawing a line under their torrid trip to Group D in the Dominican Republic today.
Dominica came into the match knowing that hosts Dominican Republic had broken all records in their 17 nil thumping of the BVI the previous day, and must surely have fancied their chances of rewriting history again when they got out of the traps and off the mark so quickly inside the first thirty seconds.
Ultimately while BVI kept the scoring under the record book range, the double digit defeat will do little for morale as they tried in vain to withstand the onslaught from the fresh Dominican players who were hungry for a goal fest to match their counterparts display the day previous.
Mitchel Joseph got the first of his three in the first half after 26 seconds play after Dominica moved the ball quickly from the kick off to the right wing, centered and Joseph did the rest giving Vanterpool no chance.
.
With the score remaining at three nil at half time the BVI must have hoped to keep their competitors at bay for another 45 minutes to try bring a respectable result home but unfortunately Kunslson Benjamin had other ideas scoring five and picking up the man of the match. Chad Bertrand and Donald Javier completed the rout with one each before the final whistle.
Dominica now march on to face the Dominican Republic on Sunday afternoon with the winner having the honour of qualifying into Group G with Cuba, Antigua and one of the second placed teams from stage one.
The BVI will head home having played the least number of games in the tournament, conceded the most and the quickest and be the only side to have a such a lengthy delay to their opening game.
