Rumor: Atlanta Silverbacks leaving the USL-1???
An unconfirmed rumor was posted in the Spanish blog: ¡Amonestado y Expulado! (Disciplined and Ejected!) claiming that the Atlanta Silverbacks will suspend operations, and that their tecnical staff is already searhing for new jobs. According to the Silverbacks official homepage, Atlanta is affiliated internationally with the Italian Inter Milan and the Argentinian Independiente football clubs.
The Puerto Rico Islanders have traditionally not fared well against the Silverbacks. The Islanders have posted a 3-6-7 (W-T-L) records against Atlanta in 16 games. While Puerto Rico has managed a .500 record at home (2-3-2), the Silverbacks have trashed the Islanders on the road where the Puertoricans have a 1-3-5 record. The Silverbacks have out-goaled the Islanders 30-22 in their USL encounters.
While the Silverbacks finished second to lastplace in the USL in 2008, they still managed to have a 1-2-0 winning record against the 2008 Commisioners Cup winners Puerto Rico Islanders. The Islanders actually won this season’s Commisioners Cup on their last game against the Silverbacks with a 1-1 draw at home in Juan Ramón Lobriel stadium on September 19th.
More on this rumor later…
